Potatoes

Covering all the best potato-growing areas means that the BS Farming and Mac Pom teams can select batches from the most favourable terroirs for the quality of each variety.

All potatoes

Round potatoes, firm-fleshed potatoes, red or yellow potatoes, industrial chips, industrial crisps… in a single season BS Farming and Mac Pom market over 100 varieties of “potatoes”. Varieties may change according to the season and the producers’ planting choices.

Most varieties are offered in standard sizes, with some batches available in small and large size.
To meet customer demand all year round, BS Farming and Mac Pom also source from Italy, Spain and Egypt, to supplement the periods when French potato production is available. At the start of the season, early potatoes are also offered, first in Italian or Spanish origin, then in French origin.

Some varieties and batches are also available as organic crops, marketed by Mac Pom, which holds BIO certification.

Potatoes for the crisps and chips industry

The managers of BS FARMING and MAC POM are responsible for almost 30% of potato production for crisps. The rest is produced by growers who sign annual production contracts. This enables MAC POM AND BS FARMING to deliver almost 40,000 tonnes of Lady Amarilla, Heraclea and other varieties of crisping potato to France, Spain, Italy and other European countries and major export markets.

Batches of crisping potatoes are kept in cold storage cells at a different temperature from the varieties intended for the fresh market. This specific temperature is essential to preserve their ability to fry well.

MAC POM and BS FARMING also supply manufacturers of Chips and processed potatoes. Sales in this segment tend to be to customers whose manufacturing sites are located close to or in countries where the climate does not allow potato harvests to provide sufficient volumes.
